The American College of Rheumatology and the Arthritis Foundation share a common goal of improving the lives of those with arthritis. To further this goal, these two organizations have teamed up on a number of issues designed to assist those living with arthritis as well as those looking into its causes and cures.

Osteoarthritis affects nearly 27 million Americans, but many misconceptions surround the disease. To combat this, the Arthritis Foundation and the Ad Council teamed up to create a public service advertising campaign to expand public health messages and interventions for arthritis on a broad scale. The American College of Rheumatology has become a partner in this effort that targets people with osteoarthritis aged 55 and older.

The ACR feels the campaign is important to increase awareness of osteoarthritis and all types of arthritis, with the end result that patients seek input from their physicians about lifestyle changes or treatments that may improve their ability to manage their illness.

Based in Atlanta, the ACR represents nearly 8,000 rheumatologists and rheumatology health professionals worldwide. To learn more about the ACR, visit www.rheumatology.org.
